Logical Data Modeling Services

Logical Data Modeling Services capture the data requirements, data definitions, and the business rules that govern the client’s data use.

The logical model presents the data that the application must store in order to satisfy business requirements. It also shows data relationships and explores any integration requirements with business areas outside the scope of the development project. Its creation does not consider any specific computer environment; therefore, optimization for performance or data storage is not considered.

Logical data models:

· Identify all entity types within the scope of the project and textually describe each

· Identify all Data Custodians of each entity type

· Include the identifiers (primary keys) for each entity type

· Include a complete list of attributes (data elements) for each entity type and textually describe and define each attribute

· Show properly named relationships between entity types and note identifying relationships between entity types where appropriate

· Usually expressed in third normal form, although not always necessary

Data modeling provides a more stable and flexible database design, because the focus is solely on business data requirements, yielding a technology-independent means for data structure.

Detailed Data Analysis Services

Detailed Data Analysis assesses the client's ability to provide the data necessary to support a chosen application or populate the logical data model, therefore answering the business questions identified in the Information Discovery process. A data sourcing matrix, data gap analysis, data extraction analysis, data transformation analysis, data demographics, data quality and consistency analysis are developed from this process.
