System Architecture & Design Services

The System Architecture Service addresses infrastructure integration issues surrounding the project. Appropriate strategies, standards, and interfaces are defined for inputting, analyzing, and retrieving information from the data warehouse. Architectural and technical design decisions are based on expected business usage of the data warehouse.

System Design produces a detailed design and the necessary specifications needed to fully design and develop a solution. The DataTech Group consultants work with businesses to validate their current IT environment, gain an understanding of their requirements, and identify new and existing technologies.

Physical Database Design Services

Physical Database Design provides the client with a physical database design and database implementation optimized for a data warehouse solution. It demonstrates how each data element is implemented and stored on the database. The physical data model may introduce objects that do not contribute to the application’s business information requirements, resulting in a variance between the physical and logical data models. New object creation may improve response times, ensure the application fits appropriately within the computing environment’s physical limitations, improve maintenance turnaround, or serve another functional purpose.

Physical data models:

· Are primarily concerned with physical limitations, performance and space requirements

· Need not be expressed in third normal form

· Identify all tables for the application

· Include definitions for all columns in each table

· Identify the primary index for each table

· Identify alternate indices for each table

· Show relating columns for each relationship (foreign keys)

The Data Warehouse Physical Database Design service provides database platform and environment design guidelines appropriate for the environment used within the project.

Data Flow (Process) Design Services

The Data Flow Design service, an extension to the Systems Architecture and Design Service, is followed by the completion of Physical Database Design. It provides detailed Data flow diagrams and focuses on the processes that interact within different subsystems (e.g. Staging server, data transformations, data loading, data purging etc) of the Data Warehouse. This service ensures that the key criteria for these processes are designed                                                                                                                                                                               for support and testing.

Data Transformation Services

Data Transformation entails designing the required process and utilities that allow the data warehouse loading and maintenance. The processes and utilities developed during this phase are designed for support, enhancement and reuse providing the foundation for data consistency and quality. Data Transformation extracts, transforms, cleans and loads data onto the data warehouse platform; however, the physical database design and process modeling must be available before loading can be performed.

Application Design Services

Application Design provides the user interface and design for specific end-user applications required by the data warehouse solution. The service supports a rapid application development and deployment methodology utilizing requirements, specifications, and prototypes developed early in the process ensuring user buy-in.  Consultants work closely with the end-user community defining tools and access requirements for total customer satisfaction.
